I also think that option 2 could get quiete interesting, since we could influence the way Kanpeki's Empire will look (or perhaps even see to it that it is not an evil empire, the description says we "ensure a just and honorable Empire endures"). So why does everyone seem to think that this path will leed directly to the taint? It could, to be sure, but it does not have to. This path may be seen as evil by others, but it is not unless we choose so in further path choices.

Hey all...I was asked to comment on your Path Choice #1. It's been suggested to me that some of you think it's too focused on the "Iron Crane/Daidoji" aspect of Crane militarism, and that some of you would prefer the "Dueling Honor" military approach. None of this is off the table by any means. Our thinking behind this Path Choice was that the Crane excel in fighting a superior enemy using the tactics perfected by the Daidoji, and you'll definitely be facing a superior enemy in the darkness attacking Rokugan. Dueling would be a secondary, more localized thing. Choosing to focus more on dueling implies a more direct, stand-and-face-the-enemy approach (because you don't generally send an army of duelists into battle; you have duelists who range across the field during a battle, seeking opponents). That's fine...but the cost to that approach will be much higher because you're not using the "strike and scoot" tactics of the Iron Crane, but the "stand and fight" tactics of more conventional combat, against a decidedly superior opponent.
What we'll probably do is revise your Path 1 slightly before it goes up as the final version for voting, to make it more of a general militaristic approach. In subsequent Path Choices, you could then decide how you want to focus (which means the CCG impacts will take longer to be realized, because you wouldn't be starting to focus militarily until those later Path Choices. That's just the reality of the development cycle time associated with designing and producing the CCG). We'll keep an eye on the comments/discussion around this.

I like the idea of Path 1 which has the potential to be Harrier-tastic. Do what it takes! Gaijin powder? Sure! Jump kicking down doors? You bet! :3
I've always liked the Colonies too though. So I like the idea of the Crane becoming a powerhouse there as well.
