And you know what we happen to have? A claimant to the throne who is a Hantei, and seems to actually want to rule instead of running off and hiding in private chambers, which has NEVER GONE WELL.

I'm going to see if he stays pure. If a pure Hantei takes the throne, that says a lot to me, especially if he chooses that over the unbridled power of his father.

I wouldn't bet on that, sad to say. The first Twenty Festivals fiction we saw had him thinking longingly about his father's "blessings". And he is about to pour Jigoku all over the landscape. Expecting him personally to remain unTainted seems optimistic at best.

The Spider players are choosing that, so we'll know the outcome for sure.

The Spider players get to choose how the Clan responds to Kanpeki's decision to cry havoc and rain Jigoku down on his enemies. They may or may not get to choose whether Kanpeki himself accepts the Taint - remember, of the two choices given to them to begin with, one of them was "oppose Kanpeki for his own good".

The light side description has a interesting line tho regarding that

'He will turn away from the abyss that ultimately claims all who try to deal with Jigoku, and will choose the way that leads to lasting power. '

That line to me implies that if we go light side he might not become tainted(that or he has one of doji's tears(those could purify a person yes? ))

Doji's Tears can indeed remove the Taint from an individual (once - then the Tear in question is expended). And they are currently in the possession of the Crane.
