There does seem to be an overwhelming consensus that we would like honor dueling to be the focus and we would appreciate a Kenshinzen for story and cardboard purposes. hehehe...

You could always have the RPG focus on what those players are interested in and the card game reflect its own interests. Obviously this does not work for the overarching story line but it allows an avenue for shifting focus to suite individual consumer segment needs/desires.

Indeed. Knowing what these two groups of people are truly interested in would help AEG calibrate its efforts accordingly.

Well if you look at the two biggest events for each group, it shows that RPG players overwhelmingly want to get people married and form alliances. On the CCG side, in the Kotei season the events won by definite Crane loyalists saved the Iron Cranes, Kakita Dueling Academy, and Kakita Technique. So in the least surprising possible outcomes, RPG players want courtiers and alliances and CCG players want dueling and fighting.

I don't see this as mutually exclusive. Show alliances and the benefits of peace amongst allies (The Carrot) and ruthless Daidoji supported by bully dueling against our enemies (The Stick).

My observations are based on how players view the product we get, not the product we may have wanted. Those views will change when this story team produces a higher quality product, such as actual benefits of alliances, but not one day before.
