Thematically terrible. I get that they're going for smooth mechanics, but the fact that having a city hurts your production more than having your provinces burned down just feels wrong.

I would assume that the Province cards are destroyed when the province is broken. That is the signal that production is lost.

Plus if you have a building on a piece of land then you can't use that land to grow anything.

They have said that a province being broken doesn't remove that province's production.

What I mean is that the province card itself is destroyed, not the dynasty card in it. So it would be more like netrunner and removing a piece of Ice protecting a server without trashing the server itself.

Right, so no production lost. But you are closer to loosing. Loose 3 provinces and they can attack your SH. Loose your SH and you loose.
