Looks like you won't have to focus it anyway. Anyone playing against a duelling deck will just strike to avoid the focus effects...  ;D

Just kidding, I understand that there will be focus effects as specific meta against duelling and people will want to focus them, so you will be able to focus yours. But that implies that IF your opponent focuses, it automatically means that he is playing meta. I think it would make no sense if you would be able to see which meta he plays, right?

The overlay changes are disappointing. What's the point for the phoenix stronghold for henshin?

Keeping your big guns in play by sacrificing boxables?
Have you looked at the current Phoenix Henshin? While the Master of Water is good, I would hardly call the rest 'Big Guns'.

Phoenix. Nobody gets nerffed better.

PS isn't that just a redirect?

I like the fact that if I happen to have 3 Shadow's Talon in my hand and my opponent focuses against me, I get to focus all three from my hand in that one duel. But really, the only person that will focus against you is the one that either thinks he has a chance, or has a focus effect of their own in their hand.

If the duel itself is the goal, then this is a great change. Like the article said, it lets them print more duels. If the focus effects are the goal (which right now they shouldn't be, as they've only shown one EE legal positive focus effect) then this is bad.

Possible changes to Ring of Fire to a Reaction?

Anyone that has problems with Conqueror being almost exclusive to Spider should also have problems with Naval and Cavalry being so exclusive. The mechanic is nice but not overpowered.

Wind of the Moon does straighten your guy every turn, and it is free, but I agree that the Proclaim rule does hurt it quite a bit.

In the same respect that it pulls other cards you may want three cards up your deck equivelantly. So you may draw into somthing you need three turns earlier but because you dont see that, you dont mention it.

that seems to be a non arguement really

It's not an arguement, because I'm not arguing.  I like the dueling changes.  And I didn't mention it because, "may draw into something" isn't a risk I want to take.

Well then it's time for the next big question. If I focus a card from the top of my deck, can I look at it after I decided to focus it? Or do I place it face down without looking at it?

The article specifically says, you CAN look at it after you focus it.  ;P

Some of these changes are good, some were needed. A couple stand out to me as really unnecessary, and/or I dislike a couple.

In general though, thumbs up for the majority of this.

Seems like it will come in to okay more as something to boost effects of cards like Peaceful Discourse.

If Peaceful Discourse could target people out of play.  :P

It wouldn't even work with Record of Failure, which also specifies base personal honor.

Oh, I know Peaceful can't work like that, hence why I said "works like," although I probably should have said "effects similar to."

Well, it would not be the first time that parts of a direct to player set aren't really used. Half of the DaK cards never saw play.

Also, there is still some (I admit it, not too much) hope that they will MRP Winds of the Moon, so it does the same as before...
Aside from killing the focus pool/focus effects (as nobody focuses against honor dueling), the other changes seem ok to me.
And I hope that conquerer will just stay for EE as a "reward" for becoming great clan, and not remain as it has potential to confuse new players.

Chiming in my disappoint for dueling changes. It's not the end of the world but we're going to have to wait till the base set (I am getting very tired of saying that) to see how the changes roll out. As of now, with everything we now about dueling, Focus effects are gone and Focus values arn't really that great either. Its hard enough trying to get someone to focus now, is someone really going to focus blind against a duelist?

My point is this: Right now dueling is little more than an action that checks chi for success. Where does focusing even play a part in this new environment? The challenged party will always strike, either to die and stop you from reacting or because they have more chi and they win.

I can now duel entirely off my fate deck.  There is no situation in which my opponent can force me to focus from hand.  This is awesome.

I now get Reju's trait on everyone with the duelist keyword.  This is also awesome.

I can also swap out crappy cards from my focused cards.  This is also awesome.

I no longer get to focus first.  This is going to change how I approach dueling from the ground up.  This is harsh.

And now I no longer need to build a Henshin deck.  I might toss one together just long enough for me to play one game and make my Gurren Lagann reference, I might not.

Interesting stuff...
