Grats on the T4 anyway, Ken and Dave are both great players, mistakes against them are usually pretty damned costly. If it helps, you're now officailly the best Crane this season so far ;)

Oh, for sure. Not ashamed of my performance at all, just disappointed that I wasn't able to play my best when it really mattered. That's not to take away from Ken's victory either. I really did throw the first game but in spite of the fact that I was in the lead, Ken played a blinder and he won the game as much as I lost it.

I was playing off the Aerie. No courtiers. Of the 7 games I won over the weekend, four were military victories and three were honor.

In the swiss rounds I went 50 / 50 against both Shiro Chugo and Shamate Keep honor (played against two of each). My ability to play the game collapsed when I made it to the top four and a series of huge mistakes caused me to lose my first game against Ken's Parajimbos when I had otherwise been in a very comfortable position. The round went to time before we finished the second game (in which I was playing better than I had in the first game but was slipping a bit behind I think (really don't want the game going long against Parajimbos) and so Ken went through by default.

Think the deck was good enough to make it to the final in the hands of a more skilled pilot.
Hey Jack, I'm interested in your style of deck.
I assume it plays the Cavalry bird, Of One Instant, Blade of Champions? etc etc?
I'm going to Evansville Kotei this next weekend and I really don't want to play ToP honor or Ancestor honor.
And I can't quite find the right tweak to beat military AND honor. I can usually beat military or honor but if I wanna beat both, I'm not too sure.

Any thoughts based on your decklist and experience this weekend?
PS. I'd go to the Irish Forums, but could never register. :-/

ToP is one of my more comfortable matchups (have never lost to it IIRC). Shamate Keep is a different story. My testing partner for that deck felt that I was winning more than I was losing once I had loaded up on meta cards but I'm not convinced that's accurate. You've got to be 100% sure you're taking a province when you attack lion honor and you've gotta forget any notions you may have about beating them in a straight honor race.

Lion Honor was definitely my toughest match up.

ToP wasn't really a threat because if they're dividing their priorities between slowing my honor gain and saving their provinces they're not going to be 100% efficient at either. They're massively slow compared to Paragon / Ancestors so it shouldn't really be an issue to take them out militarily if you can keep up the threat of an honor win.

It's more so that ToP can give one of your attackers -4F, an effect that most straight military decks don't compensate for (aside from Creating Order), and yes, not that many decks play Tireless. In addition, they are gaining that extra 2 off the box. That's ignoring fate cards or other dynasty effects (like Temple to Shinsei).

I can see that Lion would be rough because of the Skippings/spells/and Shugenja effects, but keep in mind that ToP has personalities that kill cards that are Ninja, Shadowlands or Kolat (Kaitoko, Mitsuko) in addition to cards (Dispensing Justice).

Either way, I'd assume you still have a couple of koteis to hit up?

I'm hoping to head to Aldershot, funds permitting. Embers will be legal by then though and this deck won't survive a whole expansion's worth of cards. Assuming I'm able to go it will be back to the drawing board and I don't think Crane have any decks that are just a few cards away from clicking and becoming competitive. Even more damning, any deck that emerges from KO or SA will be cripplingly boring to play and there's just no way that crane scouts will ever be able to match KH XP.

Yasunori (who is the most important personality in the deck) makes ToP thoroughly incapable of hurting your guys and their box ability, while annoying, is not enough to stop you beating them up.

Lion aren't rough because of spells. They're rough because every time you attack they gain 10 honor. If you can't inflict sufficient cost against them in terms of bodies on the table or cards in hand, you lose. The two most important cards in the Lion deck from our perspective are desperate mediation and wall of honor. Both allow them to chump block, gain their honor and save the province without risking board presence or significant honor loss.

Ahh, Yasunori build.
You must be crazy irish. ;)

Well good luck in Aldershot! Watch out for any gamers wanting to share a "meat feast" with you!
