I love the access to all the card art, and applaud the sheer amount of information gathering that has gone into it. As a repository of everything there is to know about the card set it's excellent.

However for me there are some serious user interface issues, ranging from distracting to annoying. As a deck building tool I would say it's definitely inferior to Egg.

Some specific issues that concern me:

The list boxes for set legality are too small, as a result of which it isn't possible to see any edition by the name it's generally known as (if you know Emperor Edition is "Age of Conquest" that's fine, but will any new players think of this?) It's worse in the Set options, where there are two indistinguishable "Emperor Editio" options, as well as 6 "Hidden Emper"s.

The background is so dark it is difficult to see the card text against it.

The deck editor feels very clunky, although this may in part be due to unfamiliarity. The use of the green and red buttons is non-intuitive, and they appear to function differently on the card list to the individual card display. It is possible to have negative quantities of a card in a list.

I found that the filters I had selected on the search pane disappeared from time to time.

Would have been nice to have had a 'keep me logged in' function.

I really wanted to like this product, but I'm afraid that based on inital impressions I'm only half impressed.

I'm not certain why there are hidden emporers 1 through 6, but the "age of" thing in legality has brackets after it with such things as (Emperor) and (Celestial). That seems pretty clear to me...

I wish there was a function to look only at cards that were Storyline-win related.

I wish there was a function to look only at cards that were Storyline-win related.

Searching simply "c" in the Storyline Credit field of the Advanced search yields 270 results.

Might not me 100% comprehensive, but certainly gets the ball rolling.  ;D

The Hidden Emperor was numbered 1 through 6.  It was an unusual release.

Kudos to Brook for pulling it off.  That was a truly herculean task!

I don't think it would be possible to catch all the cards that were inspired in some way from storyline wins and storyline events, although I do think it would be able to catch the cards that are explicitly credited to events.

It does now; it didn't when I first looked yesterday (the box didn''t size to fit the text). Kudos to the devs for fixing this so quickly!

I'll say one thing though, for such a long project, the interface isn't exactly inspiring. I understand and fully appreciate the effort just to get all the card texts online, but I think they definitely need to start working on the front end interface. At the moment it feels exactly like the old means of searching (L5Rsearch etc) but with a pretty picture behind it. And that was less than ideal IMO.

I'll tell you what, I'm all for giving a AEG a hard time for lazy products, and this is a bit rough around the edges, but its growing on me a lot. I love how I can search, clearly see the pics of the card, and read all of the stats. It so much more convenient.

Also, if you have a problem with certain interface options, Send them a report (theres a report button below the search parameters) Don responded very quickly to me.

I can only imagine that the multiple years spent building Oracle went into manually scanning and typing up every single card in the history of the game.  For the curious, a quick search of cards with Focus values 0-6 results in 219 pages of 20 cards per page.  So 4,380 Fate cards.  That's not counting duplicate images from multiple printings or multiple flavor text entries.

A general query (hitting search with no parameters set) results 9,606 results, again not inclusive of multiple printings etc.

As far as user interface issues, they're a lot of subjective opinion typically.  Stability issues would be more indicative of a poor product, but even then, it's difficult (impossible?) to troubleshoot a complex system being launched on every hardware/software index possible.

Oracle's really, really cool, yo.  I've already started using it over pencil and paper for decklist building.  And the proxy printing functionality coming soon and the trade functionality?  Awesome.
