Good Guy TFT Deck?
« on: August 06, 2012, 06:53:39 PM »

So, to quote the FL description: "With The Forgotten Temple players will be able to support the Non-human elements of the Emerald Empire throughout Emperor Edition, attempting to reforge the bonds of the Akasha or driving the humans from the world that was never theirs to begin with."

Whilst the box is inclined to the latter option - reducing Honour loss and barring Political actions (and this, without a Daigotsu Wind to give you a back entrance to lobbying) - is it possible to make a "good guy" TFT Theme Deck?

So, the latter is pretty much what I've seen of TFT - when it's close to theme, it's the Dark Naga, Shakash, Sleepless One, etc, and when it's not close to theme it's a Shadowlands deck (I suppose you might even say that the Chuda rebels fit the theme, too).

What I'm suggesting is we work out a playable good guy TFT Theme Deck. We want "good guy" nonhumans and theme-related allies, and from that Personality base we might just be able to work out a workable gold scheme and Fate side.

Quote
Potential Personalities and Max Number
*Hida Fubatsu Experienced - Naga. Tactician with useful Limited and Battle actions.
*Chiisai x 3 - Pretty good value, won't benefit from Fubatsu's Limited but has a helpful Battle action.
*Nijugun x 3 - Cavalry, good combined with Retribution and on the offensive...does his Battle action leave the opponent bowed if his movement home is negated? Combo possible with Qalyar over Recon.

*Yoritomo Minori x 3 - Half-Naga. Dead keyword and blank textbook except with other copies of Minori...and at 7G for 4F, that's very pricey.
*En'you x 3 - Cheap but needs a Sake production line.
*Unmei - Yeah, probably not.

*Takayuki x 3 - Nothing special, but better Force for Gold ratio than most of the Cavalry on this list. HR is a killer, though.
*Kazehime x 3 - Alright price for reasonable stats and a nice textbox. HR is the killer.

*Bayushi Misaki x 3 - Useful Dishonour action, but at 7 for 2...
*Wrathful Dead x 3 - 7-for-3 Cavalry. Combo with Misaki possible to slow down Honour runs...

*Kunji x 3 - Pricier than Takayuki for having Cavalry, but a good Force pump action.
*Natsumi x 3 - There's that HR again. Nice action, alright stats, a rare shugenja on the list...

*Longtooth - Very expensive, though again, Cavalry, this time with a nice Battle action.

*Pride of the Hand x 3 - Looks plausible. Would require a number of Terrains to get the best out of it, of course.
*Zlkyt x 3 - A destructive way of improving the deck's economy short-term, otherwise pricey for out-of-clan.

*Shugorei x 3 - Annoying trade-off with force debuff, and otherwise blank textbox for TFT. Non-starter, except for being a shugenja - if we can work out a shuggie deck!
*Tsai-Tsu x 3 - Tactician, Cavalry, slightly high F-f-G but looks like a strong possibility.
*Xijkt x 3 - Bit pricey as an out-of-clan pick, though he doesn't look useless by any means.

*Qalyar x 3 - This guy is a good guy, right? Given he foregoes the Great Sleep to stay vigilant and all. A reasonable Recon Reaction, though nothing outstanding.

There are also, of course, the Kitsune themselves plus animal companions - but that's just a Mantis deck ;). The above list seems to open up at least one possible theme - Cavalry. The problem is, it's all just a bit expensive - or much of it is, anyway. And the Force isn't great, though having a few Tacticians in there might help. A few possible synergies amongst the Personalities themselves.

Any further ideas for themes? Any ideas as to how to make a Gold scheme to make Cav a possibility? (One Koku x 3? ;))

In some ways it's annoying Shikei and Naleesh are Loyal - though the expense is a killer, anyway. Shikei might just justify it.

You won't be able to buy anyone with an Honor Requirement.

Hida Fubatsu Experienced
Takayuki
Kazehime
Natsumi
Xijkt

You'll never be able to get any of these out of TFT.

Hence noting that as a killer in the case of the two or three cards with an HR =(.
